My boss (Ben Barres) has been an advocate of women in science for some time, but I have to say that I never really "got it" until I saw this video of a talk by Jo Handelsman on science and gender bias. Basically, the take home is that through all sorts of blind and real-life studies, they've found that both men and women display unconscious bias against women (not just in science) and minorities. The good news: people don't mean to do it. The bad news: we often don't realize it's still there. And as with all problems, admitting it is always the first step towards a solution.*Picture from adamstrange.com
